Wellborn Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If you own a Wellborn product and you’re searching for parts, odds are you’re trying to keep a home addition or ADU project moving without tearing out what Wellborn already built right. We stock and install Wellborn-compatible hardware, trim, and structural connectors for home additions and ADU builds across Fort Lauderdale, with installed parts and labor typically running $45,000 – $130,000 depending on scope. Most owners discover a failed part the hard way: a door that won’t close square, a cabinet face pulling loose from the frame, or a soffit that’s sagging after one too many Florida humidity cycles. You want the right replacement, matched to your model, the first time – not a guess.
We’re an independent Fort Lauderdale contractor, not a Wellborn factory outlet. That matters because we can source OEM parts or a quality aftermarket equivalent based on what actually holds up in coastal Florida weather, not just what the catalog says.
Which Wellborn Models This Applies To

Wellborn’s line splits into a few families, and the part you need depends on which one you have. The Estate series uses full-extension drawer glides rated at 100 pounds, with 3/4-inch maple plywood boxes and dovetail joinery. The Premier series steps down to 5/8-inch plywood and a lighter glide, but shares the same hinge boring pattern. The Select series is Wellborn’s entry line: particleboard boxes with thermal-fused laminate, which means the screw anchors fail differently than on the maple boxes. Look inside the drawer box or on the back of the cabinet frame for a small white sticker with the series name and a date code – that’s your model reference.
Compatibility gotcha: Wellborn’s hinge plate uses a 35mm cup bore, same as KraftMaid, but the screw spacing on the mounting plate is proprietary enough that a generic Blum plate will sit about 2mm off. We’ve seen Fort Lauderdale homeowners strip out brand-new cabinet doors trying to force a generic hinge. For the ADU side, Wellborn’s closet system rails use a 32mm system, but the wall brackets are spaced for studs on 16-inch centers – if your ADU was framed at 24 on center, you need a different rail kit or blocking behind the drywall.
When OEM makes sense: drawer glides, soft-close mechanisms, and anything with a Wellborn-specific finish. When a quality aftermarket equivalent wins: hinges (Blum and Salice both work with a minor plate swap), shelf pins, and cabinet door bumpers. Those aren’t worth OEM markup, and honestly, the aftermarket versions sometimes outlast the originals in humidity.

Signs Your Wellborn Home Addition or ADU Part Is Failing
- Drawer doesn’t close flush on one side. This is usually a worn glide clip, not the glide itself. In Fort Lauderdale, the salt air accelerates corrosion on the cheaper Select-series clips, and once one side drops, the drawer torques the other glide until it fails too.
- Cabinet door hinge sags or won’t stay adjusted. The hinge plate screws are backing out of particleboard door stiles. Every time you adjust and it sags again within a week, the wood fiber around the screw hole is gone. A bigger screw makes it worse. You need a repair plate or a new door.
- Soffit or panel joint opening along the ceiling line. Wellborn’s taller wall cabinet systems rely on a crown molding and soffit assembly that moves as the house breathes. South Florida’s summer-to-winter humidity swing is around 40 points, and that expansion cycle pulls joints apart over three to five years.
- Closet rail brackets pulling from the wall. In ADUs where the drywall was installed over 24-inch stud spacing without blocking, the rail holds for a while, then starts to tip. You’ll see the rail tilting forward under load, and the bracket screws will feel loose even after retightening.
- Soft-close mechanism stopped working. The piston inside Wellborn’s soft-close hinge or glide damper wears out around year six to eight of daily use. You can flip the switch and live with a hard close, but if the mechanism is sticking rather than dead, it can stress the hinge cup and crack the door.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Wellborn-specific repair or replacement inside a larger home addition or ADU project in Fort Lauderdale, the line-item cost for parts and labor typically lands here:
- Cabinet door hinge replacement (per door): $18 – $65 installed
- Drawer glide replacement (per drawer): $45 – $140 installed
- Closet rail bracket repair with blocking (per rail section): $80 – $220 installed
- Soffit or crown joint repair (per linear foot): $35 – $95 installed
- Full home addition (Wellborn cabinetry + trim + hardware): $45,000 – $130,000
- ADU construction with Wellborn storage systems: $90,000 – $220,000
Every quote we write in Fort Lauderdale includes the part, the labor, the hardware, and the cleanup. The price you approve is the price on the invoice – no change orders when we find a surprise, because surprises are part of the job and we plan for them. We back every parts replacement with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we make it right in writing. That’s not a warranty card in a drawer. That’s a standing commitment.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for the model sticker inside the drawer box, measure the hinge cup bore with a ruler, and note whether the failure is on a maple box or a particleboard box. That information makes the phone call faster. What you shouldn’t DIY is structural trim on a tall cabinet run. The crown assembly carries real weight, and when a soffit joint starts to separate, a homeowner on a ladder with a caulk gun often makes the problem worse before making it better. Luca Romano has spent years unscrambling well-meaning DIY cabinet repairs across Fort Lauderdale, including some tight older builds near Las Olas Boulevard where every measurement fought back. If you’re not sure what you’re looking at, call (754) 354-7423 and ask. We’ll tell you straight whether it’s a ten-dollar part or a real repair.
FAQs

Most Wellborn hinges and glides last six to ten years in coastal Florida before the humidity and salt air catch up; drawer boxes on the Estate and Premier series routinely outlast the hardware by decades. The Select series particleboard boxes will fail sooner, usually at the screw anchors. If your parts are failing inside five years, something else is usually at play – often a door that was never adjusted after install. Call (754) 354-7423 and we can tell you over the phone whether it’s worth a service visit.
Yes, in about half the cases we see. A stripped hinge screw hole can be fixed with a repair plate or a hardwood dowel and re-drill; a sagging closet rail needs blocking, not a new rail. The soft-close dampers are not repairable – once the piston seal fails, it’s a replacement. We’ll always quote the repair before the replacement if the repair makes sense. Estimates are free.
Most hinge or glide replacements take under an hour per piece once we’re on-site. A soffit or crown repair on a full cabinet run typically runs half a day because the old material has to come down clean before the new goes up. Closet rail blocking work depends on stud access, but it’s usually two to three hours. We’ll give you a real time window before we show up, not a four-hour guess.
We carry the common failures on our trucks: Blum and Salice hinge plates, repair plates, soft-close dampers, glide clips, and shelf pins. Wellborn-specific trim and finished pieces are ordered per job, which takes three to five business days to our Fort Lauderdale shop. If we don’t have it, we’ll tell you before we schedule, so you’re not waiting on a ladder.
