Silestone Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

If you’re planning a home addition or ADU in Fort Lauderdale and want Silestone surfaces throughout, the installed cost typically runs $45,000 – $130,000 for the full addition, with Silestone countertops and surfaces accounting for $2,000 – $6,500 of that depending on square footage and edge profile. We stock and install Silestone for every part of an addition project, from kitchen counters to bathroom vanities to laundry room worktops. Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners discover they need Silestone-specific work when an existing slab cracks near a seam, the overhang starts showing stress fractures, or a previous contractor used a non-Silestone fabricator who cut the slab wrong and voided the warranty.

Here’s the thing about Silestone on an addition or ADU: it’s not just a countertop decision. It’s a structural scheduling decision. Silestone slabs are heavy and unforgiving, and in Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, the substrate underneath matters as much as the surface on top. If you’re adding square footage, you’re also deciding how the Silestone gets templated, cut, and installed before plumbing, electrical, and cabinetry are finalized. Get the order wrong and you’re paying twice.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

Silestone runs dozens of color lines, but for home additions and ADUs in Fort Lauderdale, the workhorses are the standard 1.2 cm and 2 cm slabs (about 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch thick), with 3 cm (1.2 inches) becoming the go-to for kitchen islands that take daily abuse. The compatibility question isn’t really about color. It’s about whether your existing slab can be matched or extended. Silestone colors are made in batches, and a slab poured three years ago won’t match a new slab exactly, even in the same color name like Eternal Calacatta Gold or Miami White. If you’re adding an island or extending a run, we template the new piece against the existing surface so the variance is invisible, not obvious.

OEM Silestone is manufactured in Spain. There are aftermarket quartz brands that look similar and cost less, but they don’t carry Silestone’s HybriQ+ technology, which is the binder system that gives the surface its scratch and stain resistance. For an ADU that might become a rental, the OEM surface holds up better under tenant use. Our default is OEM Silestone for anything load-bearing or water-exposed, and we’ll show you an aftermarket option if budget is the deciding factor.

Signs Your Silestone Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

  • Cracks radiating from a corner of the sink cutout. This is the most common failure we see in Fort Lauderdale additions. The fabricator cut the inside corners too sharp, or the cabinet underneath wasn’t shimmed level before the slab went down. Quartz cracks, it doesn’t bend.
  • Seam separation at the joint between two slabs. If you can catch a fingernail on the seam, the adhesive has failed. In Florida humidity, we use a UV-stable epoxy and mechanical leveling to keep slabs from drifting apart as the house settles.
  • Chalking or hazing around the sink and faucet areas. That’s mineral buildup from Fort Lauderdale’s hard water bonding to a surface that’s lost its factory seal. Silestone doesn’t need sealing, but it does need the right cleaner. Abrasive cleaners eat the finish slowly.
  • A dull spot where hot pans or coffee makers sit. Quartz is heat-resistant, not heat-proof. A 400-degree pan straight from the burner will scorch the resin binder and leave a permanent mark. In an ADU with a small kitchen, this happens more often than people admit.
  • Wobbling or sagging overhang on a breakfast bar or island. The Silestone isn’t failing. The support underneath is. Unsupported overhangs beyond 12 inches need corbels or steel brackets, and plenty of additions skip that step to save $200.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open kitchen and dining area after a remodel

For a full home addition or ADU in Fort Lauderdale, the installed Silestone portion runs $2,000 – $6,500 per surface area, with the total project landing between $45,000 and $130,000 depending on square footage, permitting, and finishes. A single Silestone kitchen counter replacement in an existing addition runs $2,500 – $5,000 including template, fabrication, installation, and haul-away of the old slab.

What drives the range: slab size and color (exotic colors cost more per square foot), edge profile (eased edge is standard; waterfall or mitered edges add labor), and whether we’re matching an existing surface or starting fresh. Every quote includes the written line-item price before work starts, the template visit, the fabrication at our Silestone-approved shop, installation by our own crew, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the slab cracks at a seam within a year, we’re back to fix it. No argument, no second invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

You can check the obvious stuff yourself: run your hand along the seams to feel for separation, look under the overhang for missing brackets, and stop using glass cleaner on the surface if it’s leaving streaks. But Silestone is not a DIY material. Quartz slabs weigh hundreds of pounds and are cut with water-fed diamond saws. A botched cut ruins a $800 slab in seconds. Even moving a slab across a Fort Lauderdale lawn can crack it if the path isn’t level.

We’ve also seen homeowners try to “repair” a hairline crack with epoxy from the hardware store and turn a $400 fix into a full slab replacement. The resins in Silestone require a specific color-matched adhesive, and it has to be applied under the right temperature and humidity conditions. If you’re not sure whether your surface needs a repair or a replacement, call (754) 354-7423 and send us a photo first. We’ll tell you straight what you’re looking at.
