ViewLux Home Additions & ADU: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If you’re looking at a ViewLux home addition or ADU in Fort Lauderdale, you’re likely dealing with either a failed structural component, a door or window system that’s no longer sealing, or a foundation anchor that’s compromised by South Florida moisture. Installed replacement work on ViewLux-compatible additions and accessory dwelling units here typically runs $45,000 to $130,000 depending on whether we’re repairing a section or rebuilding the structure. Most owners discover the problem the same way: a door that suddenly won’t square in its frame after a humid summer, a crack running through the slab, or water staining at the roofline where the addition meets the original house.
We’re Sawyer Remodel Fort Lauderdale, an independent contractor in Fort Lauderdale, not affiliated with ViewLux. What we do is fix and rebuild these structures the right way, with a written price before we touch a tool.
Which ViewLux Models This Applies To

ViewLux home additions and ADUs aren’t a single product line with serial numbers like a dishwasher. They’re modular and panelized structures, typically built around one of three frame profiles: the VL-A (aluminum post-and-beam), the VL-W (wood-framed with steel connectors), or the VL-H (hybrid steel-and-wood). The compatibility gotcha most owners hit is at the corner posts and ridge ties. ViewLux changed their post seat dimensions between the 2018 and 2021 production runs, so a post from a 2019 build won’t drop into a 2022 frame without a shim plate. We measure the post base and check the stamp on the ridge connector before we order anything.
Your addition will have a manufacturer label on the main beam, usually near the entry corner, or on the interior side of the exterior wall panel. It’ll show a production date code and the frame series. If that label’s gone (common in Fort Lauderdale, where salt air eats the adhesive), we go by post dimensions and wall section thickness. For OEM parts, we order direct from ViewLux’s parts division. For structural members like beams and posts, we’ll often recommend going with aftermarket milled lumber or steel to the same spec, because lead times on OEM parts can stretch to six or eight weeks. For door systems, glass panels, and flashing, OEM is usually the smarter call: the weatherstripping and seal profiles are proprietary and aftermarket equivalents rarely seat correctly.

Signs Your ViewLux Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
- Doors that won’t latch or square up. South Florida’s wet-dry cycle swells and contracts the frame. When a door that worked in February won’t close in July, the header or post has shifted, and that means a connector or anchor is failing, not just the door itself.
- Cracks at the roofline seam where the addition meets the main house. This is the most common failure we see in Fort Lauderdale. The original house settles one way, the ViewLux structure settles another, and the gap opens. Small cracks are normal; gaps wider than a nickel mean the flashing and tie-in need work before water gets behind the wall.
- Soft spots in the subfloor near the exterior walls. If the bottom plate or rim joist is wicking moisture from the slab or from splashback, you’ll feel a bounce or softness underfoot. In Florida, that’s often a flashing failure at the base plate, not a leak.
- Condensation or fogging inside double-pane glass panels. Seal failure in the insulated glass unit. ViewLux panels from the 2017-2020 era had a known seal adhesion issue that shows up faster in coastal humidity. Fogged panels aren’t just cosmetic; they’ve lost their insulative value and need replacement glass.
- Visible rust or white corrosion on metal connectors and post bases. Fort Lauderdale’s salt-laden air is unforgiving on uncoated steel. If you can see rust bloom on the brackets under your siding or at the post bases, the structural connection is degrading from the inside out.

What drives the range most is whether we’re repairing a section or rebuilding, and whether the existing frame is square enough to accept new panels without corrective framing. DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: read the manufacturer label if it’s still there, take photos of the door gaps and the roofline seam, and look for visible rust at the post bases. That gives us a head start on diagnosis. What you shouldn’t attempt is opening up a structural wall, pulling a door frame, or cutting into the roofline tie-in. ViewLux panels carry load through the corners and ridge, and if you release the wrong connector, you’re not just dealing with a cosmetic problem. You’re dealing with a structure that’s suddenly unsupported.
If it’s a door that needs adjusting and nothing structural has moved, that’s a phone call, not a project. If the post has shifted or the header is sagging, call us. The work either holds up or it doesn’t, we make sure it does. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll tell you honestly which category you’re in.
FAQs

In Fort Lauderdale’s salt air and humidity, a well-installed ViewLux structure should give you 25 to 35 years on the frame, but door seals, flashing, and steel connectors typically need attention at the 8 to 12 year mark. Coastal exposure shortens that. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll inspect your specific build.
Glass panels with failed seals are replaced, not repaired; the seal is inside a sealed unit and can’t be re-adhered in the field. Door frames can often be re-squared and re-flashed, but a warped or corroded post needs replacement. We’ll tell you which one you need after looking at it.
A single post or beam replacement typically takes two to three days on site. A full addition rebuild runs four to eight weeks, and an ADU from ground to finish is usually ten to sixteen weeks depending on permitting. Fort Lauderdale’s permitting office adds its own timeline, and we pull all permits for you.
We stock common door rollers, weatherstripping, flashing profiles, and structural connectors for ViewLux VL-A, VL-W, and VL-H series on our service trucks in Fort Lauderdale. Larger structural members and OEM glass panels are ordered per job. We also work with parts from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the interior finish side.
If your ViewLux addition or ADU isn’t holding the way it should, call (754) 354-7423 for a free estimate. You’ll get a written price, a straight answer on what’s actually wrong, and a repair that’s backed for a full year.
