Tuff Shed Bathroom Remodeling: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
A full bathroom remodel inside a Tuff Shed structure in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $9,000 – $28,000 installed, depending on plumbing rough-in, waterproofing scope, and finish selections. Most owners discover their shed bathroom needs real work when the subfloor starts flexing under the toilet or drywall wicks moisture up from a shower pan that was never sloped right. Tuff Shed builds a solid shell, but the interior is only as good as the person who finished it. We see it all the time near Wilton Manors and Victoria Park: sheds that were roughed in fast, with fixtures bolted to studs that were never meant to carry a bathroom’s daily humidity.
We are an independent remodeling contractor in Fort Lauderdale, not affiliated with Tuff Shed. What we do know is how their structures behave here, and how to rebuild the inside so it actually lasts.
Which Tuff Shed Models This Applies To

Tuff Shed sells two general classes of building that end up as bathrooms: the Premier PRO series (engineered for residential accessory use) and the Sundance series (slightly lighter frame, often used for studios or pool cabanas). Both can hold a bathroom, but they are not framed the same way. The Premier PRO uses 2×4 wall studs on 16-inch centers with a floor system rated for heavier dead loads. A Sundance model is sometimes framed with 2x4s on 24-inch centers, which changes where a toilet flange can sit and how much blocking you need behind a wall-mount sink.
The gotcha most homeowners run into: the shed arrives with a bare OSB subfloor. Tuff Shed does not waterproof it. If the prior owner or a previous contractor set a shower directly on that OSB without a proper Schluter-style membrane or mud bed, the subfloor is already wicking. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, you get about two to three years before that OSB starts to swell and the tile grout cracks at the edges. When we open these floors up, the smell tells you everything before you even see the damage.
If you are trying to identify what materials were used, look for the sticker inside the door jamb. It lists the model name and the original order date. That date matters because Tuff Shed changed floor-joist spacing on several Premier models around 2019. If your shed was built before that, the joist layout may need reinforcement before we can set a tile floor that will not crack.

Signs Your Tuff Shed Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Spongy floor around the toilet or shower base. The OSB subfloor has absorbed moisture and lost its structural bond. Left alone, the toilet flange will start to tilt, and the wax ring will fail. That is when you get waste seepage under the floor, not just water.
- Grout cracking in a repeating pattern. If the cracks run in a straight line across the tile, the floor joist below is deflecting. Tuff Shed floors are not stiffened for tile unless someone added a second layer of plywood and a decoupling membrane first. Most were not.
- Beads of water or dark staining at the drywall base near the shower. This is the classic sign the shower pan liner was installed flat on the subfloor with no pre-slope. Water pools, soaks through the grout, and wicks up the wall board. In Fort Lauderdale, this never dries on its own.
- A bathroom that smells like a damp crawlspace even after cleaning. Mold is growing inside the wall cavity or under the floor. That is a health issue and a structural one. We have opened walls near Riverside Park and found mushrooms, which tells you how long the moisture was trapped.
- Shower door or enclosure no longer sitting square. The shed has settled or the wall framing around the shower has swollen. Either way, the glass is now bearing on the hinges the wrong way, which is a safety concern, not just a cosmetic one.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, a Tuff Shed bathroom remodel ranges from $9,000 for a focused rebuild (new waterproof shower pan, subfloor repair, vanity replacement, basic tile) up to $28,000 for a full interior teardown with plumbing re-rough-in, new electrical runs to code, custom tile work, and higher-end fixtures. The largest cost drivers are plumbing: whether the waste line is already in the slab or needs to be added, and waterproofing: doing it correctly is labor-heavy and material-heavy, and it is the part you never see.
Every estimate from Sawyer Remodel Fort Lauderdale is a written line-item price before any work starts. You know what the materials cost, what the labor costs, and what the permit fees are. The price we put in writing is the price you approve, and the invoice matches it. No change orders appear unless you request a change. On top of that, the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to the whole job. If something fails within a year because we missed it, we come back and fix it. Written guarantee, not a handshake.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: look for the model sticker inside the door jamb, feel the floor around the toilet for soft spots, and run a moisture meter up the drywall near the shower if you own one. Those observations help you know what you are dealing with. What you should not do is start pulling tile or cutting into the subfloor. Once you expose the underside of a failed shower pan, you are dealing with trapped moisture, possible mold, and framing that may be compromised. That is the point where a wrong guess turns a $9,000 rebuild into a $20,000 structural repair.

FAQs

A properly waterproofed and ventilated Tuff Shed bathroom should last 15 to 25 years before fixtures wear out, but the first build usually fails within 2 to 5 years because the shower pan and subfloor were never sealed correctly for Florida humidity. The difference between the two timelines is almost always the waterproofing work done before the first tile went down. Call (754) 354-7423 for a free inspection if you are not sure which situation you have.
Sometimes yes: a cracked vanity top or a failing toilet flange can be swapped without a full remodel, but if the subfloor has been wicking moisture under the shower, partial repairs will not hold. The damaged section has to come out to stop the source. We will tell you which situation applies after we open it up and look, and the written estimate covers exactly the scope you need, nothing more.
Most jobs in Fort Lauderdale run three to five weeks from demolition to final grout sealing, depending on whether we are re-routing plumbing and whether the shed needs supplemental framing or a new subfloor. Weather matters less on an interior job, but Fort Lauderdale’s humidity means we schedule drying time between waterproofing and tile, and we will not rush that step. You will get a schedule in writing with your estimate.
We stock the core waterproofing materials, Schluter edge trim, backer board, and common tile setting supplies on our trucks. Finish materials like tile, vanities, and fixtures come from our supplier partners, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so you pick from real brands instead of whatever the hardware store had on the shelf. Everything is priced in the written estimate before work starts.
