ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If your ActiveYards driveway or paver section has cracked, shifted, or started separating at the joints, we stock the replacement components and install them across Fort Lauderdale. A paver driveway repair or partial re-lay in this area typically runs $1,200 to $6,500 depending on how many square feet are involved and whether the base underneath needs rebuilding. Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners discover the problem after a heavy summer downpour, when a low spot suddenly holds water or a paver edge pops up where the root system pushed through. What starts as a tripping hazard near the front walk usually means the sand bed under the pavers has washed out or the edge restraint failed, and the fix is rarely just resetting one stone.
The ActiveYards paver line is built as a modular system, so the good news is you rarely need a full teardown. The bad news is that mixing a random big-box paver into an ActiveYards pattern looks wrong immediately, the color’s off, the chamfered edge doesn’t line up, and it sits a sixteenth-inch proud. We’ll cover exactly how to match what you have, what fails first in South Florida’s climate, and what an honest repair should cost.
Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards manufactures its driveway and paver components under a handful of series names, and the compatibility question is where we see the most mismatches. The current lineup includes the Holland, CastleStone, and Mega-Antique paver profiles, plus the Permeable series for driveways that need to shed water into the ground rather than into the street. Older Fort Lauderdale installs from the 2010s often used the now-discontinued Coventry line, which has a slightly different joint width than the current Holland series. If you’re not sure, flip a loose paver. The underside sometimes carries a molded batch code, and the thickness is stamped right there, 60mm for foot traffic, 80mm for driveways rated for vehicle loads. The 80mm is non-negotiable for any surface that sees a car or SUV. A 60mm paver in a driveway application is the number one reason we get called out for sunken, cracked sections within three years of install.
We are an independent service provider in Fort Lauderdale. We’re not affiliated with ActiveYards, which actually works in your favor, because we’ll tell you straight when an aftermarket paver from a local supplier matches your pattern well enough and when it doesn’t. Our general rule: structural pavers under load, OEM or exact-spec equivalent, always. Decorative border pavers, quality aftermarket is fine. We’ve matched enough ActiveYards jobs near Victoria Park and Rio Vista to know which local suppliers carry which line in stock right now, and which ones will promise it in a week and deliver in a month.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Standing water pooling in one low spot after a normal rain. Fort Lauderdale gets roughly 60 inches of rain a year, and a properly pitched paver driveway should clear itself in minutes. Pooling usually means the sand bedding has eroded underneath, and the pavers are starting to settle. This is the earliest warning sign, and it’s the cheapest one to fix.
- Pavers rocking or shifting underfoot when you walk the same path. Rocking means the sand bed has voids under the paver surface. In Florida’s sandy soil, this frequently traces back to a washed-out edge restraint or an ant colony that set up under the pavers. Left alone, the movement spreads to neighboring stones.
- Springy or soft spots when you drive on the driveway. If the paver surface flexes under the weight of your car, the compacted limestone base below has failed or was never thick enough for Fort Lauderdale’s soil. This is a base rebuild, not a paver swap, and pricing reflects that.
- Widening gaps between pavers with weeds or soil filling the joints. Sand loss from heavy rain and pressure washing leaves joints open, and Florida’s growing season does the rest. The fix is re-sanding with polymeric sand, but only after the edge restraint is checked and re-secured, or the problem repeats in four months.
- Edges of the driveway flaring outward or dropping off at the curb line. The edge restraint, typically a plastic or aluminum paver edging spiked into the base, has let go. Once the perimeter moves, the entire field of pavers starts to drift. We see this constantly in Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods with mature oak and ficus root systems.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, you can expect these installed price ranges for ActiveYards-related driveway and paver work:
- Paver repair, small area (under 50 square feet): $1,200 – $2,800
- Partial driveway re-lay with base patch (50 – 150 square feet): $2,800 – $4,800
- Full paver driveway re-lay with base rebuild (150 – 400 square feet): $4,800 – $7,500
- New paver driveway installation: $7,000 – $18,000
- Driveway sealing (after repair or preventive): $250 – $700
- Concrete driveway replacement, if your base is past saving: $4,500 – $12,000
What changes the number is the condition of the base below the pavers. If the sand bed alone needs re-compacting and re-sanding, that’s the low end. If the limestone base has eroded or roots have heaved it, we’re removing and rebuilding from the soil up, and that’s the high end. Every quote we write is a line-item breakdown: paver material, sand, base aggregate if needed, edge restraint, and labor, priced separately so you can see exactly where your money goes. The number in your estimate is the number on the invoice. We don’t do change orders that appear at the end of a job. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and if the repair fails within that year, we return and make it right at no charge. Luca Romano signs off on every paver job before it’s closed.
DIY or Call Us?
There’s a small handful of things you can do yourself before picking up the phone. Walk the driveway after a hard rain and mark the low spots with chalk or painter’s tape, that helps us find the drainage pattern quickly. Note where the edges are flaring. Pull a loose paver and check whether the stamp says 60mm or 80mm, and snap a photo of the underside. That’s genuinely useful information. What we don’t recommend is pulling pavers up and re-setting them yourself if the area sees vehicle traffic, because an incorrectly compacted base fails again within a year, and you’ve spent a weekend to save money that turns into a bigger repair. Same goes for polymeric sand application. It’s not dangerous work the way garage door springs are, but it’s tedious, and done wrong, the sand cures into a haze that looks worse than the original problem. If the pavers are in a walkway-only section and you’re handy, resetting a few is reasonable. For anything under a driveway, our truck typically carries the common ActiveYards profiles and the right base materials, so a call to (754) 354-7423 gets someone out to look, quote a written price, and usually complete the repair the same visit.
FAQs

With a properly compacted base and intact edge restraint, ActiveYards pavers last 20 to 30 years in South Florida, even with the rain and humidity. What fails in 5 to 10 years is usually the base or the sand bedding underneath, not the paver itself. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll tell you whether your pavers are actually worn out or just sitting on a failed base.
A cracked or chipped paver can absolutely be swapped individually if the surrounding base and sand bed are still intact. The challenge is matching the color and profile, especially on older ActiveYards series that have sun-faded in the Florida sun. Call (754) 354-7423 with your paver count and we’ll source the match.
A single-paver or small-section repair usually takes 2 to 4 hours on-site, including re-compacting the sand bed and re-sanding the joints. A partial re-lay up to 150 square feet typically completes in one day. The schedule is confirmed in writing before we start.
We stock the most common ActiveYards profiles, including Holland and CastleStone in the standard color blends, for same-visit installation on Fort Lauderdale jobs. Less common colors and the Permeable series are typically sourced from our local supplier within 48 hours. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll check our current truck inventory while you’re on the phone.
