CWS Windows & Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If you have a CWS window or door that’s binding, leaking, fogged, or simply won’t lock, we stock and install CWS-compatible hardware, glass, seals, and full replacement units across Fort Lauderdale. Most CWS window and door part replacements run $180 – $850 installed depending on what failed, and full window or door replacements typically land between $4,500 and $25,000. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with CWS, but we’ve worked on enough of their units in this market to know exactly which parts fail first in South Florida humidity and salt air. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a repair or a replacement, and what each will cost.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS (Custom Window Systems) builds several distinct product lines, and not every part swaps across them. The main series you’ll see in Fort Lauderdale homes are the CWS 6000, 8000, and 9000 impact-rated lines, plus their non-impact vinyl and aluminum frames on older builds. The fastest way to identify your unit is to look for a label or sticker on the frame’s interior edge, usually top or side, which prints the series number and glass type. If the label is gone, measure the glass thickness. CWS impact units run 7/16″ or 9/16″ laminated, while standard units use 3/4″ or 1″ insulated glass. That measurement alone rules out half the wrong parts. One gotcha we see regularly: CWS balance assemblies from the 8000 series do not fit the 6000, even when the visible dimensions match within an eighth of an inch. Aftermarket balances and rollers exist, but for anything load-bearing like a balance, hinge, or multi-point lock, we lean OEM-equivalent. On seals and weatherstripping, a quality aftermarket profile from a brand like AmesburyTruth often outperforms the original in our humidity without costing more.

Signs Your CWS Windows & Doors Is Failing
Here are the five failure patterns we see most on CWS units in Fort Lauderdale, along with what’s actually happening behind each one:
- Sash won’t stay up, or drops when released. The spiral or block-and-tackle balance inside the frame has lost tension or the spring has snapped. CWS balances fatigue faster in salty coastal air when the frame isn’t kept clean.
- Window is foggy between the panes. The insulated glass unit’s seal has failed and moisture is now trapped between the lites. This doesn’t just look bad; the R-value of that glass drops sharply once the seal goes.
- Multi-point lock won’t engage or the handle spins loose. The gearbox in the lock’s center case has stripped, or the shoot bolts have come out of alignment. On CWS doors this is one of the most common calls we get after a couple of rough hurricane seasons.
- Hard to slide, or the door drags and shudders along the track. The roller assembly has worn flat on one side, or the track has filled with sand and grit. Fort Lauderdale’s sandy soil means rollers here wear twice as fast as inland homes.
- Water stains on the wall or floor near the frame at the corners. The corner gaskets or the glazing wedge have compressed or cracked. Left alone, this becomes drywall damage and mold, not just a window issue.

DIY or Call Us?
If you can see a cracked handle or a piece of weatherstripping hanging loose, and you’re comfortable with a screwdriver, that’s a fair-scale task. But three of the repairs above involve tension. Window balances are under constant spring load, and a CWS multi-point lock strips because the door is out of alignment; forcing new parts onto a misaligned frame just destroys the new parts. The same goes for glass. Impact-rated CWS units are laminated, heavy, and unforgiving when the glazing wedge lets go. Nothing on this list is worth a trip to urgent care. If you’re anywhere in Fort Lauderdale, call (754) 354-7423 and describe what the window or door is doing. We’ll tell you honestly whether it’s something you can handle, or whether our crew should be the ones holding the balance tool.
FAQs

How long do CWS windows and doors actually last in Fort Lauderdale?
In Fort Lauderdale, expect 18 to 25 years from CWS frames and 10 to 15 from seals, rollers, and balances before coastal humidity and salt exposure start claiming parts. Impact glass itself can last decades if the frame stays square and the gaskets get replaced before they crack. If you’re past year 15 and chasing one repair after another, it’s usually cheaper to replace the whole unit than to keep patching. Call (754) 354-7423 for an honest read on which path makes sense.
Can the part be repaired, or does the whole window need replacing?
Most CWS failures are repairable at the component level: balances, rollers, seals, and locks all swap independently. A full replacement only makes sense when the frame itself is warped, the glass seal has failed on multiple lites, or the unit is old enough that parts are discontinued. We’ll tell you the repair price and the replacement price and let you pick. Call (754) 354-7423 for a written estimate on either option.
How long does a CWS part replacement take?
Most single-part swaps on CWS windows and doors take 1 to 2 hours once the part is in hand. Full window replacements run half a day per unit for standard sizes. We stock common CWS balances, rollers, and hardware on the truck, and specialty glass usually arrives within 3 to 5 business days. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll give you a real time window, not a four-hour guess.
Do you stock CWS parts, or do you order them?
We keep the fast movers on the truck: CWS tilting latches, spiral balances for the 6000 and 8000 series, door rollers, and multi-point lock sets. Odd glass sizes and impact-rated IGUs are ordered per job and typically arrive within a week. If you need a specific part, call (754) 354-7423 with the label info or a photo and we’ll confirm stock before you spend another day fighting the window.
