PGT Roofing: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
We stock and install PGT-compatible roofing parts across Fort Lauderdale, with most replacements running between $400 and $1,800 installed depending on the component and access. If you’re dealing with a cracked tile, a lifted flashing joint, or a seal that gave out after a storm, we can usually match the part same-week and often same-day. The way most homeowners find out is simple: a brown spot on the ceiling after heavy rain, or a tile that slid out of place and let water behind it.
PGT is best known in South Florida for impact windows and doors, but their roofing lines show up on plenty of Fort Lauderdale homes, especially newer builds and post-hurricane reroofs. The parts that fail first here aren’t usually the big structural pieces. It’s the small stuff: ridge caps, flashing, sealant joints, and fastener points. Salt air, UV, and summer downpours work on those weak points year-round.
We’re an independent service provider, not a PGT factory operation. That means we give you straight answers on whether OEM makes sense or a proven equivalent will hold up just as well. The work either holds up or it doesn’t – we make sure it does.
Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s roofing products fall into a few families, and the compatibility question comes down to which series you have. The WinGuard line is the one most Fort Lauderdale homeowners recognize, built around aluminum-reinforced profiles and laminated glass rated for impact. In roofing applications, that translates to skylight glazing, roof window frames, and integrated flashing systems designed to lock with the roof membrane rather than sit on top of it.
The key gotcha is profile depth. PGT roof windows and glazed panels come in 2-1/4 inch and 3-1/4 inch frame depths, and the flashing kits are not interchangeable between the two. If you measure the frame and order the wrong depth, nothing lines up. We check the label on the inside of the frame or the edge of the glass before we order anything.
For most Fort Lauderdale owners, the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision breaks down like this: if the part is structural or weather-sealed (flashing, gaskets, impact-rated glazing), go OEM or a direct equivalent that meets Miami-Dade HVHZ standards. If it’s a cosmetic cap, a trim piece, or a standard fastener, a quality aftermarket part usually does the job for less. We’ll tell you which bucket your part falls in before we sell you anything.
One more compatibility spec worth knowing: PGT’s older 2005-2012 roof window models used a 5/8 inch glazing bead. The 2013-and-newer models moved to a 3/4 inch bead. The gaskets are not cross-compatible, and using the wrong bead is a leak waiting for the first real storm.

Signs Your PGT Roofing Is Failing
- Water staining on the ceiling after a heavy rain. This is the classic first signal that a flashing joint or seal around a PGT roof window has opened up. The water usually travels before it shows, so the stain may be a few feet from the actual breach.
- A tile that’s shifted, cracked, or sitting proud of the roofline. One slid tile exposes the underlayment and fasteners to direct sun and rain. In Fort Lauderdale’s wet season, that becomes a full leak fast.
- Granules collecting in gutters or at downspout bases. If you’re seeing a buildup of asphalt granules, the shingle surface is degrading. It’s not failure yet, but it’s the warning light that replacement is close behind it.
- Flashing that’s lifted, rusted, or pulling away from the roof window frame. Flashing is the most common failure point on PGT roof installations. The metal expands and contracts with heat, and over time the sealant bond fails.
- Daylight visible through the frame when you’re in the attic. If you can see light around the roof window frame from inside, water can get in the same gap. Do not wait on this one.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Most PGT roofing part replacements in Fort Lauderdale land between $400 and $1,800 installed. The low end covers single-part swaps like a ridge cap, a section of flashing, or a gasket replacement. The high end covers roof window frame extraction and re-installation with new flashing and sealing, especially on two-story homes where access requires lifts and extra safety setup.
What drives the range: access (single-story versus two-story, roof pitch), whether the part is OEM or equivalent, and how much surrounding material needs to come off to get a clean install. We don’t patch over rot. If the decking under the failed part is soft, we show you photos and give you a written line-item price before we cut anything.
Every PGT-compatible repair we do includes written pricing before work starts, a written guarantee on the repair, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise behind it. That means a full year of accountability. If it wasn’t done right, we come back and make it right. No argument, no invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
If you want to diagnose the problem yourself, check for visible tile damage from the ground, clear debris from valleys and gutters, and look for water stains on the ceiling after rain. Those checks are safe and they help us quote accurately over the phone.
What we don’t recommend: getting on the roof yourself. Steep pitches, wet tiles from afternoon storms, and Fort Lauderdale’s heat make a bad combination for someone without fall protection and roof experience. Working near a failed flashing joint also means working close to the roof edge, and that’s where accidents happen. If the part involves any height work or sealant failure that opened the roof, call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll assess it from the roof with proper gear. The estimate is free.
FAQs

Most PGT roofing seals, gaskets, and flashing last 8 to 15 years in Fort Lauderdale’s UV and salt-air conditions. That’s shorter than the life of the glass or structural frame. Regular inspection after major storms is the cheapest way to catch a seal before it becomes a leak. Call (754) 354-7423 for a free estimate on any part that looks tired.
Sometimes, but only when the failure is limited to sealant or a gasket. If the flashing has pulled away from the frame or the metal is rusted through, patching it buys you a season at best. We’ll tell you plainly if a repair will hold or if you’re paying twice. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll give you the honest answer.
Most single-part replacements take 2 to 4 hours on-site once the part is in hand. Roof window frame work can run a full day. We stock common PGT-compatible parts on the truck, and we also stock roofing parts for adjacent brands like KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for mixed-material remodels. No. You approve a written price before any work begins, and that’s the number you pay unless you approve a change in writing. That’s The Relay Standard on every job. Call (754) 354-7423 for a free estimate.
