Tuff Shed Roofing: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
Tuff Shed-compatible roofing replacement in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $600 – $2,500 installed, depending on whether you need a patch, a full panel swap, or structural repair underneath. We stock the common Tuff Shed roof panel profiles and flashing on our trucks, so most jobs finish the same day. The way most owners find out is unglamorous: a brown stain spreads across the ceiling, or a Florida downpour drips onto the lawnmower. The roof looked fine until it wasn’t.
Down here, Tuff Shed roofs take a beating that sheds in Ohio never see. Salt air, 250-plus days of humidity, torrential afternoon storms, and hurricane-season wind uplift all grind at the fasteners and flashing. We’re Sawyer Remodel Fort Lauderdale, an independent service provider not affiliated with Tuff Shed. What we do is match the right panel, seal it properly, and stand behind the work with our 365-Day Done Right Promise. Luca Romano runs our crew, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells every homeowner: “The work either holds up or it doesn’t – we make sure it does.”
Which Tuff Shed Models This Applies To

Tuff Shed has used a few different roof systems over the years, and the part you need depends on which one sits on your shed. The most common in Fort Lauderdale backyards is the standard metal panel roof found on Premier Pro and Premier Ranch models, with corrugated galvanized or painted steel in 36″ widths. The Tall Barn and Barn Series use a similar panel count but steeper pitch. If you’ve got a Sundance or Garden Series, the roof is a smaller asphalt shingle system – usually a single square of three-tab over plywood decking.
The compatibility gotcha: Tuff Shed changed its panel-to-purlin fastening pattern around 2018 on Florida-distributed sheds to meet Miami-Dade wind load code. Panels look identical from the ground, but the pre-drilled holes sit at different spacing on pre-2018 vs post-2018 units. You can check this yourself: measure the distance between screw rows along a panel edge. Older units run 24″ on center, newer Florida units run 16″ on center. If you order the wrong one, the holes don’t line up and you’re drilling blind into the framing. We match this before ordering anything.
OEM vs aftermarket is a real decision here. Tuff Shed sells replacement panels through their parts desk, and the quality is fine. But the lead time runs weeks, and you’re paying brand markup for what is essentially standard 29-gauge R-panel steel. Good aftermarket panels from a metal supplier in Broward run 30-40% less and install identically, as long as the profile gauge and rib spacing match. We use whatever gets you to a watertight roof fastest at the honest price.

Signs Your Tuff Shed Roofing Is Failing
- Rust streaks running down from the screw heads. The neoprene washers degrade under UV and salt exposure first, allowing moisture to wick down the fastener. The panel itself often has years left. This is the most common Fort Lauderdale failure we fix.
- Water stains on the underside of the roof deck, especially near the ridge line. Ridge cap screws back out under thermal cycling (steel expands, wood doesn’t), leaving the highest seam open to wind-driven rain. You’ll see the stain before you see the gap.
- Daylight visible through the ridge or eave gaps from inside. In older sheds, the foam closure strips that seal the panel ribs have crumbled to dust. The roof looks fine from the ground. Lie on your back inside with the door closed and look up.
- Panels lifting or slapping during afternoon storms. Wind uplift has compromised the fastener hold, usually because rust chewed the screw shank. This is the stage right before a panel peels off in a squall.
- Sagging between the rafters when you push on the roof sheathing. On shingle-roof Tuff Sheds, Florida humidity rots the OSB decking from the underside. The shingles might look new. The deck they’re stapled to is mush.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, expect these installed ranges for Tuff Shed roofing work:
- Fastener and washer replacement (full roof): $400 – $800
- Ridge cap reseal or replacement: $200 – $500
- Single metal panel replacement: $250 – $600 per panel, installed
- Full metal roof panel replacement (typical 8×12 or 10×12 shed): $1,200 – $2,500
- OSB decking replacement under shingle roof: $700 – $1,400 including re-shingling
What drives the range: shed size, pitch, whether the purlins underneath are sound, and what kind of shape the existing flashing is in. You get a written price before any work starts – that’s our standard, not an option. The number on the invoice is the number you approved. Every job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, and if a repair fails within the year, the second visit is free. No argument, no call-center gauntlet.
DIY or Call Us?
If you just want to spot-check, go for it. You can look for rust streaks, daylight at the ridge, or crumbled foam closures from inside the shed. You can clear debris off the roof with a leaf blower. That’s useful, honest owner maintenance.
What we’d steer you away from is replacing panels or re-fastening a metal roof yourself. Working on a sloped metal panel means walking the purlin lines blind, and one misstep puts a foot through the only thing protecting your tools. The fasteners need to hit framing at the correct torque – too loose and the panel lifts, too tight and you strip the hole and create a leak. And if the roof is shingle with rotted decking beneath, the danger goes up: you’re standing on material that can’t support weight. A wrong step lands you inside the shed faster than you can react. If you’re seeing water inside the shed, call us at (754) 354-7423. The estimate is free and the fix is usually faster than your weekend.
FAQs

In South Florida’s salt air and humidity, expect 12 – 18 years from the original metal panels, but the fasteners and washers typically fail at the 7 – 10 year mark. That’s the fix that buys you another decade out of the panels. Shingle roofs on Tuff Sheds here rarely make it past 10 years before the decking needs attention. Call (754) 354-7423 and we’ll tell you whether your roof has life left or needs full replacement – the inspection is free.
Almost always, yes. When washers and fasteners are the failure point, we replace every fastener on the roof for a fraction of panel replacement cost. If panels are rusted through or the purlins are rotten, replacement is the honest answer. Either way, you get a written quote before we touch anything, so you decide with the numbers in hand. Call (754) 354-7423 for an exact quote.
Most metal roof replacements on a standard Tuff Shed are complete in one day, including the old panel removal and new flashing install. Shingle roof replacements with decking work usually take two days. You’ll get a live arrival time before we show up, and photo updates of the work.
We carry common 36″ metal panel profiles, ridge caps, closure strips, and the correct Florida-wind-load fasteners on our trucks. For odd panel colors or unusual Tuff Shed configurations, we source locally – often same week from Broward suppliers. If you happen to need other materials while we’re out, we also stock cabinet and surface parts from KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone. Call (754) 354-7423 with your shed dimensions and we’ll check inventory right then.
